I first want to say I like the style of this toy chest. That's why it's so hard to say Do Not Buy It!Well maybe not that hard. The first one we had was a different design. The top was arched and heavy. The screws pulled outof one of the hinges and the top narrowly missed crashing down on my 22 month olds head. I happened to be present for thisoccurrence and thankfully caught it. Notice that this version of the chest is no longer on the market. We received a replacementfrom the manufacturer and the second seemed to be a better design. The top is flat and much lighter. My daughter stood on the chest the other day (there are no visible warning stickers telling us not to let her) and thehinges promptly pulled right out of the wood. The screws holding the hinges in are tiny, maybe half an inch. The placementof the hinges and screws basically insures that they will bend and pull out if someone sits on this flat inviting bench-likesurface. My now 4.5 year old daughter is not overly large; she weighs 45 pounds. We now have to throw this toy chest away. There is no possibility of repair, the wood has splintered. The warranty was onlygood for one year. So sad, but in the interest of safety we have to get rid of it, removing the lid as we place it on the curb,like an old broken refrigerator. So there you have it, the first lasted 22 months it took us over a month of negotiations with Guidecraft to get it replaced,the second lasted 3 years and two weeks. For a $200 toy chest I expected it to last for at least one child.

I bought this toy box for my two-year-old granddaughter. It seems fairly solid, though the bottom is quite weak. We'll see how long it lasts. The paint is attractive and the box is large and rather spacious.My complaints: One of the holes was not drilled all the way through. More importantly, the box needs to be assembled in a particular order. However, there are NO step-by-step instructions. There is a diagram, but it isn't much help. As a result of a great deal of trial and error which should not have been necessary, it took me two hours to put this box together. The top is quite heavy and I could have used another pair of hands.Buy it only if you have someone around who is handy, fairly strong, and intuitive about assembling things.

Hi there.. while I love this piece, now that it is completed.. I was less than happy to find out I had to build it, and it had a pretty big crack on the bottom panel I worked around... (I have photo's of that.)In the listing it wasn't clearly stated that it came in many parts...so I was surprised, to learn i'd spend hours putting it together... Not to mention allen keys are the most annoying tool to use in building things..that said.. it's a cute piece...
